Comilla Victorians have won the title in three of the last four seasons. On Friday, they will have an opportunity to add to their burgeoning trophy cabinet - they will have a shot at a fifth title overall - when they take on Fortune Barishal in the grand finale of BPL 2024.

That the grand old men of Bangladesh cricket are still performing has come as a heartening sign. Tamim Iqbal is the leading run-getter in the competition.

He’s made 453 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 125.48 for Barishal and Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah have lent stability and finishing prowess lower down.

Mushfiqur, who has made 368 runs in all, helped shepherd the side’s chase of 150 in the second qualifier with an unbeaten 47, while the seam-bowling pair of Mohammad Saifuddin and James Fuller helped restrict Rangpur Riders, who bow out despite being table toppers, to a manageable total.

Comilla’s journey has been fuelled by Towhid Hridoy, who was signed midway through 2023. An age-group prodigy, Hridoy has for long been an enigma who has often flattered to deceive at the highest level. But BPL 2024 has heralded a new beginning of sorts.

He sits second on the run charts with 447 runs, but has struck them significantly better at than Tamim at 149.49. His outstanding 64 under pressure helped down Riders in the first Qualifier, while also helping him cross his previous-best tally of 407 runs last year.

With the ball, Comilla will dearly hope Mustafizur Rahman is back for the final. He last played over two weeks ago, but is believed to be recovering well from a head injury he sustained at training. His return could be a massive fillip against a gun batting line-up.

Barishal’s batting pedigree gives them a slight edge in this one.

BPL Final Tips & Predictions

On current form, Tamim Iqbal is a must have in your fantasy team. His knowledge of surfaces, local bowlers and conditions gives him a massive head start.

His strike rates have been consistently above 120, and his ability to bat deep puts him in line to walk away with the most runs in the competition. If he does that, Barishal would’ve given them a great chance of winning the title.

Comilla should try and target Barishal with spin in the powerplay. Tamim has the propensity to attack in the powerplay, but on slow turners, before the dew sets in, Comilla can try and throw thew gauntlet to try and restrict him.

The plan may or may not work, but it’s well worth a gamble.
