Two teams on opposite ends of the form spectrum will face each other on Saturday as the BPL continues to hit high gear with the business stage of the tournament approaching.

Barishal have put themselves in a strong position as the playoffs with five wins in nine games while Sylhet are on the opposite end of that, with three wins in nine games.

Five wins in nine games has put Barishal right in contention for a strong push to the final, and are presently are in third position with a net run rate of 0.475.

Barishal have relied on four national stars for the majority of their batting output, led by Tamim Iqbal’s 273 runs at an average of 30.33 and a strike rate of 121.87. Mushfiqur Rahim is next on the list with 240 runs followed by Soumya Sarkar’s 226 runs.

Both of them have scored at a strike rate of over 120 while Mahmudullah has provided the finishing impetus, with 197 runs at a handy strike rate of 143.79.

While Barishal don’t have too many players in the top wicket-taking charts, they have been helped with consistent performances from Khaled Ahmed and Mohammad Imran, who have both taken 10 wickets apiece. Mohammad Saifuddin has also chipped in with seven wickets.

Sylhet Strikers

Sylhet are all but out, and are languishing in sixth with a net run rate of -1.054.

Much of Sylhet’s problems have come from batters not stepping up. They have only one batsman who has scored more than 150 runs in this tournament, which is always an issue on slower pitches.

Zakir Hasan has been their standout performer, with 201 runs at an average of 25.12 and a strike rate of 125.62.

Barishal, with their depth of national talent, will be a tough team to dislodge, especially for a team struggling for any form or fluency.

Barishal have enough in the bowling department too, which should be enough to stave off almost any challenge that Sylhet throw at them.

Sylhet, at this stage of the tournament, don’t have much to play for apart from pride. That will be an influential factor in this game with their differences in stakes.
