How to bet on CWC League 2 – A comprehensive guide
The Cricket World Cup League-2 is a tournament played to identify who among The Associates earns a ticket to South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia for the 50-over World Cup in 2027.
The compelling nature of contests in the Associate world, like we’ve often seen over the years, makes it a fascinating tournament to bet on.
Most of these sides have semi-professionals, but their passion is as much, if not more than what we see from full-time professionals.
Key factors include player availability, current form, surfaces where the matches are played, and what is the duration after which they’re playing again.
While such a prospect offers exciting opportunities to win big, follow all legal obligations by choosing a licensed sportsbook as your preferred platform. Setting betting limits will help you also play more responsibly.
A total of 34 teams will participate in qualifying – across levels - for the next ICC Cricket World Cup, which will be a 14-team event. The eight top-ranked teams in the ICC rankings at a cut-off date that hasn’t yet been set in stone will qualify alongside full-member hosts Zimbabwe and South Africa.
This means there will be four berths on offer during this qualifying pathway tournament.
Namibia have to go through the Qualifying pathways as they’re not a Full Member. While it’d be great to have the host nation in it, there is a realistic scenario where we see games in Namibia being played without the hosts being involved.

Understanding the CWC League-2 Format
It’s an eight-team competition that will be played over a three-year cycle. Each side plays the other at home, away, and at a neutral venue.
At the end of the cycle, the top four sides go through to the World Cup Qualifiers, which will be a 10-team event comprising two bottom-ranked Full Members (No. 9 and No. 10), the top four teams from CWC League 2 and the top four from the World Cup Qualifier Playoffs.
What is the World Cup Qualifier Playoff?
The four teams that finish at the bottom of CWC League 2 will play four teams from the Challenge League. This tournament will be called the WC Qualifier Playoff.
The top four from here will advance to the World Cup Qualifiers. This essentially means, teams that are part of CWC League 2 have two shots at qualifying for the 2027 World Cup.
Teams at CWC League 2
Namibia, Scotland, Netherlands, UAE, USA, Oman, Canada, and Nepal are the teams that will be competing.
Each team will play a total of 36 ODIs over the next three years, a long enough window to draw ascertains on a player, his form, his type of game, his value, utility, and ability that can help you massively while placing your wager for a particular match.
Factors to Consider While Betting
Each team plays at home, away, and at a neutral venue. This means conditions become a massive factor. Nepal, for example, are largely a spin-based attack and play to their strengths at home. Which essentially means surfaces will take turns from the outset. This makes the games slightly low-scoring.
In the Netherlands, the cold and moisture is conducive for seam and swing to come into the picture. Teams tend to stack up their bowling attacks with seam options. Ditto with Scotland. In UAE, it’s a test of players’ fitness and endurance. The fitter batters tend to bat for longer.
Player availability is another massive factor. Example: Netherlands have a number of players featuring in the English county championship, which makes them unavailable full-time for their home country. This is why some players like Roelof van der Merwe missed playing the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe last year but were available for the 50-overs World Cup.
The current form can’t be understated. De Leede had an outstanding run in Zimbabwe that culminated in his impressive performance on the big stage. Someone like Max O’Dowd struggled to adapt on slower surfaces in India.
Popular Betting Markets
The nature and length of the CWC League-2, which spans for close to three years, allows for different types of bets and several combinations of bets one can place. Here, we list a few of them you can wager on.
Match Winner
This is a simple exercise that eliminates the need to access tons of data, match-ups and complexities an average fan may not be privy to. Therefore, this involves simply picking a winner from the two teams that are contesting the match. Obviously, it goes without saying that upsets are a massive possibility in sport, but a team that has shown consistency over a longer period than the other will, more often than not, come up winners. And you need to hedge your bets according to just recent history and form.
Innings Runs
If it’s a Test match, which team will take the lead? Which batter will score the most runs in the innings. Who will hit the most boundaries? Which batter will face the most number of deliveries. Which captain will score more runs? These are some of the intuitive bets one can look to wager on with regards to a batting performance.
Top batter/bowlers
As the name suggests, who will pick the most wickets? Will a particular bowler pick up a hat-trick? Who will bowl the most number of maiden overs? These are passage-specific bets that require a proper grasp of the teams, players and opponents. No wonder it is a favorite section for several top sports books.
Session betting
How many runs will Team A’s opener score? How many combined runs will No. 9 to 11 make? How many runs will be scored in the first power play (Overs 1-15). How many runs will be scored in the death overs? Will Team A enforce the follow-on against Team B? These are different passages in a game on which one can wager, with functional knowledge and understanding about the game and its formats.
Legal and Responsible betting
Ensure you’re never overboard by setting personal betting limits so that you have an enjoyable experience. One big mistake can often lead to a chain reaction of several errors that can hinder your betting experience. Above all, choose a licensed operator in your region.
