Every season begins with promise, but it doesn’t take long for Royal Challengers Bangalore to pull out their calculators and do the math.

It’s no different this time at the WPL as they go into the eighth and final league fixture against Mumbai Indians with their playoff spot under a cloud. Mumbai have no such worries, having sealed their playoff spot. A win on Tuesday will allow them to qualify directly for the final.

What RCB Need To Do To Qualify

As things stand, RCB are placed third in the table with a positive net run rate. By the time they get into this fixture against Mumbai, they’d have the advantage of knowing what they need to do.

If UP Warriorz beat Gujarat Giants, RCB will need to beat Mumbai to secure the third playoff spot, which will be an improvement from the previous season, when they finished fourth. If the Giants win, RCB will have a bit of breathing space since Warriorz will have slipped even further with their net run rate, virtually ruling them out.

The bottom line is there’s a chance they can qualify even if they lose narrowly, but they will need a couple of results going their way. They wouldn’t want that.

Mumbai Favourites In Clutch Moments

They needed 91 off six overs against the Delhi Capitals. Harmanpreet Kaur brought back memories of her epic knock in the 2017 World Cup semifinal when she made an unbeaten 171 to dethrone Australia. In Delhi, Harmanpreet was unbeaten on 95 off 48, leaving a trail of destruction in her arc between cow corner and long-off.

This isn’t the first time they’ve shown this tendency to come back from the dead. They also stunned the Capitals on the opening night when unheralded Sajana Sajeevan hit a last-ball six to clinch a thriller. All told, they’ve shown this ability to thrive under pressure.

Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Tips and Preview

RCB head into this game having lost four out of their last five games. Their back-to-back wins to start the season seem ages ago. However, bank on Richa Ghosh to give you wholesome returns on the current form.

On Sunday night, she endured heartbreak as RCB lost off the last ball, but during her 29-ball 51 with four fours and three sixes, she showed tremendous calmness even with RCB needing 17 off six. Along with Ghosh, Ellyse Perry is an excellent bet for points with bat and ball.

From Mumbai, pick Yastika Bhatia. She’s been in excellent form, and as an opener, she can help you maximise your points. There’s little doubt Mumbai are the form team, but don’t count RCB out.

Verdict

RCB will give it their all to clinch the playoff spot, but eventually Mumbai will emerge victorious to clinch the win and qualify directly for the finale.
