New Zealand vs Pakistan 2nd T20I Preview
In response, New Zealand just needed 59 balls to cruise to a 1-0 series lead. In terms of balls left, that was their third-biggest win in T20s, beaten only by quicker wins against Bangladesh in 2010 and against Sri Lanka in 2016.
If you’re wondering, New Zealand played without some of their Champions Trophy stars, including captain Mitchell Santner, Kane Williamson and their regular bowlers. The win was set up by stunning bowling from Jacob Duffy (4 for 14) and Kyle Jamieson (3 for 8 from his four overs).
New Zealand Form
New Zealand showed just why they are so dominant in these conditions. Their pace unit is extremely hard to get away on pitches that can bounce and carry through. Their fast bowlers combined for eight wickets and conceded 33 runs. Ish Sodhi contributed with 2 for 27 from his four overs.
Tim Seifert got the innings off to a sparkling start with 44 off 29 balls while Finn Allen managed 29 off 17 balls. Even Tim Robinson chipped in with 18 off 15 balls with one six.
New Zealand Team News
Considering this is an experimental team, New Zealand may want to give some chances to more players in a long series of five matches.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan have a lot of work to do. Since their tri-series at home, they have won just one match (in a mammoth chase against South Africa). Pakistan have historically struggled against pace and bounce and accuracy, as was the case in the first match of the series.
Khushdil Shah top-scored with 32 off 30 balls with three sixes while Salman Agha managed 18 off 20 balls. The only other batter to enter double digits was allrounder Jahandad Khan, who managed a run-a-ball 17.
Pakistan Team News
Pakistan had one bad game but they may not make wholesale changes to their team yet.
Verdict
While you can never discount Pakistan when betting on cricket, you can also look at several mismatches in this contest and say with reasonable confidence that New Zealand are just a bit too strong in these conditions. New Zealand’s pacers are far too disciplined and accurate for a new-look team that have not played in these conditions too often.
