This is a healthy IPL rivalry over the years. At the WPL, here’s a chance to stoke those sentiments all over again when the two sides clash for the first time this season.

Last year, this was a no-contest. Mumbai won the first fixture by nine wickets and the reverse fixture by four wickets. This time around, it appears as if things are more even both in terms of squad depth and the points table.

Royal Challengers have strengthened their bowling attack considerably by including the Australian duo of Georgia Wareham (legspinner) and Sophie Molineux (left-arm spinner).

Mumbai haven’t tinkered much, but have added pace fire in Shabnim Ismail. While she missed the previous game due to a niggle, it’s likely she’ll be back for this one.

As far as points goes, both RCB and Mumbai are coming off defeats. RCB’s was less demoralising, as they were well in with a chance of scaling down Delhi Capitals’ 195 at the halfway mark with Smriti Mandhana barnstorming her way to a maiden WPL half-century. Without Ellyse Perry, who was out due to an illness, the pressure was telling on the lower order.

Mumbai had it worse against a fired up Warriorz, who handed them a pounding after losing the first two games themselves. This adds a lot of zing to Saturday’s fixture where one of these two sides will slump to a second straight loss.

RCB will be concerned over their Indian bowling, especially the spinners. Shreyanka Patil has looked a pale shadow of the exciting avatar who rose through the ranks last year, while Asha Shobana proved expensive and bowled just two overs against Capitals. Mumbai, in comparison, seem better rounded in the bowling.

Essentially, this will once again boil down to how much heavy lifting RCB’s batters to try and get them over the line. The one big factor that has fuelled them is their strong home crowd that have turned up and cheered vociferously. Mumbai would agree how much of a factor the crowd can be.

RCB vs Mumbai Indians Tips & Predictions

Mumbai seem to have better balance overall. Hayley Mathews is scoring runs up top, Harmanpreet Kaur is in excellent form, their bowling attack looks gun.

Legspinner Amelia Kerr currently tops the wicket charts (seven in three games at an economy 7.42) apart from contributing lower-order firepower with the bat.

Bank big on Mumbai to break their rut, while also weighing up the possibility of an RCB win. All told, squad balance or otherwise, this is their best chance to record their first-ever win over the arch-rivals.

Verdict

This is RCB's best chance to record their first-ever win over the arch-rivals.
