Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 1st ODI Preview

After a disappointing Test series, Bangladesh’s focus will now switch to the ODIs, where they have traditionally a bit more success than the longest format of the game.

The problem for Bangladesh, however, will be their discernible lack of experience after Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah retired from the format after the Champions Trophy.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka have the more settled team with players that have honed their craft in the white ball, such as Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, who were recently part of the IPL.

With the bat, Sri Lanka will move Kusal Mendis into the top order while captain Charith Asalanka will be the key cog in the middle order. In-form Pathum Nissanka will open the batting.

Sri Lanka Team News

Sri Lanka may consider three spinners for the slower conditions with Dunith Wellalage expected to plat the allrounder role.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh have struggled to find any fluency in international cricket recently, and their recent loss against Sri Lanka in the Tests compounded their issues. They will now play under a new captain in Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy will be key players in the middle order while wicketkeeper Litton Das is expected to open the batting.

Bangladesh Team News

Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman will both likely start along with Nahid Rana in the fast-bowling department.

Verdict

Bangladesh are no pushovers but in recent times, they have found it hard to compete considering this transitory period. Sri Lanka look a lot more settled and should come out comfortably on top in conditions that are far more familiar.
