Australia came roaring back into the first Test after they were bowled out for 180 in the first innings to complete a resounding 159-run win in Bridgetown. 

Australia used seamer-friendly conditions in a more threatening manner but the difference was Australia’s score of 310 in the second innings, led by fifties from Travis Head, Beau Webster and Alex Carey.

Australia’s bowlers were exceptional through the first Test. Josh Hazlewood took 5 for 43 in the second innings to go with his two wickets in the first innings. Head scored two fifties in the match to earn the Player of the Match award. 

"You don't 100% know what you're going to get coming up against players that we haven't played a lot against on a field that we've never played on before. Our message is always: remember what makes you a good player, play to your strengths,” Pat Cummins said.

Steven Smith will return for the second Test, and will replace Josh Inglis at No. 4. 

West Indies Form

West Indies need to find a way to get some consistency in this format. There were periods in which their bowling was excellent, particularly Shamar Joseph, who took 9 wickets in the Test. 

Their batting, though, was a major let-down in both innings after starts for several of their batters.

West Indies may not make too many changes but they will look at this Test as the end of the rope for a few of their batters should they continue to fail.
