West Indies vs Bangladesh Third T20I Preview
Bangladesh put in a performance of substance as they completed a resounding victory in the second T20I against West Indies in Kingstown. Bangladesh defended 129 with ease as they had West Indies bowled out for just 102.
On a slow, sluggish pitch, Bangladesh were able to muster just 129 for 7. There were cameos from Mehidy Hasan Miraz (26 off 25 balls) and Jaker Ali (21 off 20) to lift Bangladesh from 52 for 5. However, it was a terrific hand from Shamim Hossain, who hit 35 off just 17 balls including two fours and two sixes, to carry Bangladesh to 129 for 7. Gudekesh Motie finished with figures of 2 for 25.
In response, West Indies made a fast start to get to 19 for 0 in the first two overs. But their innings collapsed miraculously thereafter as they slipped to 42 for 6 in the ninth over. The damage was done by Bangladesh’s accurate spin bowling, led by Mahedi Hasan’s 2 for 20 in four overs.
Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein provided West Indies with a chance as they both hit 30-plus scores but that was far from enough as West Indies were bowled out in the 19th over. Taskin Ahmed finished with figures of 3 for 16 while Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up a couple of wickets apiece.
West Indies Form
West Indies’ batting has come under intense fire from some accurate, incisive bowling in this T20I series. That is certainly a cause for immediate concern for West Indies going into the final match of the series.
Apart from Chase and Powell (in the first match), West Indies’ batters have not been able to find any momentum or temperament to get past tricky phases of batting on slow and low pitches.
West Indies will also be disappointed with their death overs bowling. Twice in two games now, they have let Bangladesh off the hook after having them on the mat. That will be one area that West Indies would want to plug the gap quickly going into the final match.
West Indies Team News
With the series done, West Indies may play around with their squad and give others in the camp a chance in the final T20I.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh have continued to rely on the one aspect of their game that they can depend on: their spin bowling. Their fast bowlers have taken pace off the ball and made West Indies play shots outside of their natural strengths.
Conditions in Kingstown have been similar to back home in Bangladesh with the low pitches aiding accurate spin bowling.
Bangladesh’s batters have been able to find some runs, which has put them slightly ahead of the game but it will be interesting to see how they can score if they have to chase a decent total.
Bangladesh Team News
Like West Indies, Bangladesh may also make a few changes to their playing XI with the series won.
Verdict
West Indies have struggled against spin bowling but they have been close to winning in both games. Bangladesh could face the same troubles if they bat second in the final game. West Indies should come out with a bit of fire and eagerness to prevent a whitewash at home.
