Bangladesh Sport This Week: 8 to 14 October
Tigers Make History in Abu Dhabi
Bangladesh play their first ever Test in the UAE on Friday. The one-off Test against Afghanistan runs from 9 to 13 October at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Najmul Hossain Shanto leads the side while Tawhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali are back in the squad with Taskin Ahmed is rested. Afghanistan have a new Test captain in Rahmat Shah.
This is a fresh start after a flat Asian Games. Bangladesh lost their semi-final to Pakistan by six wickets, then lost the bronze-medal match to Sri Lanka by 63 runs.
Bangladesh Women Take On Australia
Bangladesh Women open a three-match ODI series against Australia in Brisbane on Friday. All three games are day/night matches at Allan Border Field.
- 1st ODI: Friday 9 October, 9:50am
- 2nd ODI: Sunday 11 October
- 3rd ODI: Wednesday 14 October
Nigar Sultana captains, while Nahida Akter is vice-captain. Two uncapped pacers, Disha Biswas and Habiba Islam, have a shot at a debut.
International Cricket
India lead West Indies 1-0 in their five-match T20I series. Shreyas Iyer smashed 102 off 43 balls in Lucknow, his first T20I century, as India won by eight wickets.

Australia start a three-Test tour of South Africa on Friday. The first Test is at Kingsmead, Durban, from 9 to 13 October, starting at 1:30pm.
Pakistan host Sri Lanka in three T20Is at Rawalpindi on 9, 11 and 13 October. Every game starts at 9pm.
Football
The Bangladesh Football League is back this week. Bangladesh Police play Fakirerpool YMC. Police are perfect so far, with two wins and no goals conceded with the rest of the league fighting to keep up.
The Premier League returns this weekend. The headline game is Liverpool vs Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday at 9:30pm.
Saturday has Arsenal vs Leeds United at 5:30pm and Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur at 10:30pm.
