The 2027 Australian Open will provide the best tennis players in the world with the chance to secure a Grand Slam crown almost as soon as 2026 ends.
Carlos Alcaraz will arrive for the tournament as the reigning champion but, as has become the norm, he will have a real battle with Jannik Sinner to ensure he defends his crown.

The Australian Open has been dominated by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz of late, with the pair combining to secure each title since 2024.
Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning champion after he brought to an end Sinner’s two-tournament winning run. Alexander Zverev will be an interesting prospect after winning the French Open and US Open in 2026, with both Slams the first time he has won a major event.
The trio arrive as the players to back, although the Australian Open can often prove a tough tournament for the favourites.
Indeed, with the final Grand Slam of 2026 being played across August into September, there is a lot of time between the culmination of the 2026 US Open and the start of the 2027 Australian Open.
This, mixed in with the turn of the year, can sometimes see players struggling to build up momentum heading into the first Slam of the year. It is worth noting that while the pressure can be tough for the favourites to shoulder, the underdogs in the betting will also need to find a way to hit the ground running too.
Novak Djokovic and Ben Shelton follow in the betting, but they are someway short of the top three.
Zverev will be keen to add to his two Grand Slam crowns that he won in 2026, while Djokovic is still hunting that elusive 25th Grand Slam crown. Despite the pair boasting considerable talent and experience, they have really struggled to match Sinner and Alcaraz of late.
It is worth noting that Zverev's US Open win came with Sinner missing the tournament, Djokovic falling in the first round and Alcaraz eliminated early as he made his comeback from injury. While Zverev is talented, he has a losing record against each of his main opponents.
If the odds are anything to go by, then we will likely be treated to another enthralling encounter between the two best players in the men’s game right now. While still only young in tennis terms, both Sinner and Alcaraz are already building one of the great rivalries between players.
