The English Premier League will return with some of the best attacking talent in the world looking to hit the back of the net across each of the 38 matchers their teams will play.

Erling Haaland arrives for the new season as the big favourite to top score, but he will face a new challenge this term as new manager Enzo Maresca looks to find a way to get the best out of the top striker in the men's game.

Erling Haaland was once again the best striker in the Premier League across the 2025/26 season, with the Manchester City forward able to storm to the top of the goal scoring charts after netting 27 times.

Despite playing less games than most of the players closest to him in the goal scoring charts, Haaland still finished five clear of Brentofrd's Igor Thiago, who scored 22 goals in 38 games.

Despite enjoying a stunning season last time out, Thiago is not currently Haaland's biggest challenger. Indeed, Alexander Isak is fancied to be the big rival to Haaland, although the Liverpool forward will hope to be far more effective after his big-money move from Newcastle failed to really ignite.

Haaland's purpose this season will be very interesting for a City side that is looking to move on from Pep Guardiola's time as manager with Maresca installed. Haaland has often cast a frustrated figure on the pitch, although his lack of presence in City building up with the ball has rarely stopped him from being the man finishing a move.

The focus continues to be trying to stop the big Norwegian from picking up space, but this is far easier said than done. Haaland has proved too strong or quick for many defenders, while his movement and knack for being in the right place at the right time saw him terrorise the opposition last term.

With a range of big teams now looking to rebuild with new managers, some prominent strikers may struggle with new tactics employed, while others may become even more important as tactics suit their style of play better.

Can Haaland top score in the Premier League yet again, or will one of his main rivals find the back of the net more consistently this year?
