Australia vs England Women Preview & Tips
Australia Women can all but secure their place at the top of the World Cup table by beating second-placed England in their penultimate group game.
England Women have a big chance to hand Australia their first defeat of the World Cup as the two top sides in the competition come together.
- The Aussies have beaten England in two of their last three in the 50 over game
- Annabel Sutherland has taken 12 wickets at the 2025 CWC
Head To Head
In their last 10 meetings, Australia have secured six wins, with England winning the other four encounters.
Australia Women Form
Australia Women are yet to taste defeat at the 2025 World Cup, with only the weather denying them a perfect run as their clash with Sri Lanka was rained off earlier in the tournament.
Away from this disappointment, the Aussies have beaten New Zealand (by 89-runs), Pakistan (by 107-runs), India (by three-wickets) and Bangladesh (by 10-wickets). With the exception of their win over India, each win has come with a big margin of victory.
Much like their game against India, I do not predict a bit victory against England. While I back them to defeat their opponents, I believe it will be an incredibly tight win that proves the margins between the two are razor thin.
With England looking to make a statement, Australia's bowling lineup will be crucial. This is why I am backing Annabel Sutherland to star for the Aussies as she adds to her 12 wickets at the competition this year.
England Women Form
England Women have matched Australia every step of the way, securing four wins and one no result across their opening five. The only thing that is different is England's slightly inferior net run rate (+1.490 to Australia’s +1.818).
The one major worry for England will be that unlike Australia’s no result against Sri Lanka, England’s no result saved them from a humiliating loss to Pakistan. Only able to post 133/9 in their 31 overs, England were saved by the weather with Pakistan at 34 without loss from 6.4 overs. Barring one of the great collapses, England would have lost that game heading into their clash with India.
While England have all of the tools to beat Australia, I am backing against them in this one. Australia continually find a way to win tournament matches, and with the lure of moving clear at the top of the ladder, I back the Aussies to make it three wins in their last four ODI’s against England.
Verdict
I am backing Australia to defeat England as Annabel Sutherland continues to lead from the front with the ball.
