England vs Australia Fourth ODI
England kept themselves alive in the series with a win in the third ODI and now have a chance to square the five-match series against Australia. The fourth game will be played at the Lord’s in London on Friday in a day-night match that will start at 5pm IST.
Australia was the better team in the first two matches, but England managed to get back into reckoning with a comprehensive win on Tuesday. Can they continue their momentum and level the series? I still believe it’s the World Champions who have an edge and are backing them to win at Lord’s and close out the series.
- Australia posted the highest o/p in 7 of their last 8 matches against England (ODIs)
- England conceded the highest o/p in 3 of their last 4 matches at home against Australia (ODIs)
- England lost 6 of their last 7 matches against Australia at this venue (ODIs)
Head to Head
England and Australia have played each other in 159 ODIs so far, with England winning 89, losing 65, two matches tied, and three ending without any result.
The victory on Tuesday was England’s first in eight ODIs, as they lost seven in a row before that success.
England Form
England lost the first ODI by seven wickets in Nottingham and by 68 runs in Leeds to take a 2-0 lead. The hosts then won by 46 runs (DLS method) in the third ODI in Chester-le-Street.
That win keeps the series alive, but England needs to win both the remaining matches while Australia needs just one victory.
Harry Brook scored a match-winning hundred in the third ODI and has 153 runs to his name in the series. With the ball, it’s Jacob Bethell and Brydon Carse who top the charts with four wickets each.
England Team News
England made just one change each in the two ODIs, with Jofra Archer coming in and out of the playing XI. Will that be the case once again and Archer finds a place on the bench?
Australia Form
World Champions Australia started the series well with two consecutive wins, but were brought crashing back to the ground with a loss in the third match.
Rain played spoil sport, as the moisture in the pitch during their batting innings was the reason they couldn’t start well. Australia did well to score 304, but rain still had the final say in England’s batting innings.
Travis Head has the most runs (183) for Australia, but it’s Alex Carey’s resurgence that’s the story of the series for the visitors. Carey has two 50+ scores, while with the ball, Mitchell Starc (five) remains their best bet.
Australia Team News
Australia rested Travis Head and Adam Zampa in the second ODI, but both players could get back into the playing XI here.

Verdict
England did well to bounce back and keep the series alive, but do they have enough in the tank to win again and take the series to the fifth ODI? Australia should restore Head to the top of the order, which gives them an advantage to start well. I am backing Australia to post the highest opening partnership of the match.
