What’s with Australia and battling the odds? Losing more players to injuries hasn’t deterred them on Thursday, as they dominated England to win by seven wickets in Nottingham. The five-match series now moves to Headingley in Leeds for the second ODI on Saturday.

England had a great opportunity to break their losing streak against Australia, especially with injuries striking the visiting camp. That said, the Australians are World Champions for a reason, and they proved it. Their batting looks settled, and that’s once again likely to drive their charge. I am putting my money on Australia scoring the highest opening partnership.

Going back to the World Cup, Australia have now won their last two matches against England.

England batted first in Nottingham to post 315 all out, which was below par, considering they were in strong position at 213 for 2 in the 33rd over.

The hosts were driven by Ben Duckett’s knock of 95 at the top of the order, but the southpaw was guilty of giving his wicket away. With the ball, there wasn’t much to offer from the English, with only three bowlers taking one wicket each.

It will be interesting to see how England will reshuffle their pack, considering their middle order had a collapse in the first match.
