India vs Bangladesh Second Test

A clinical India fought the right battles as they answered all questions Bangladesh threw at them in Chennai to take a 1-0 lead. The teams now move to Green Park in Kanpur for the second Test starting from Friday, 27th September to see if there’s a white was for the home team or the visitors get their first-ever win over India.

The Chennai Test showed just why India is a powerhouse in these conditions. They have the batting depth, thanks to the presence of all-rounders, while their bowling unit looks like a complete unit covering all bases. Bangladesh can take heart from the way they fought, but they need to take it a step above to translate those gains into a win. I don’t see that happening in Kanpur, not least because India has a settled side.

Head to Head

India and Bangladesh have played each other in 14 Tests, with India winning 12 and drawing the other two. In the first match, India won the Test by 280 runs.

That win made it six in a row for India against Bangladesh in Tests, with two wins coming by an innings and three by a margin of 188 or more runs.

India Form

India is top of the ICC WTC points tally with 86 points and a 71.67 percentage of points. They have to win four of their next nine matches, starting with this one.

The hosts won the first Test by a whopping 280 runs, with Ravichandran Ashwin winning the player of the match award for his 113 with the bat and 6 for 88 with the ball.

Ravindra Jadeja also excelled with five wickets in the Test and 86 runs in the first innings. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also showed their mettle with second-inning hundreds.

India Team News

India went with three seamers in the first Test but could look to bring a third spinner into the playing XI for this match. Akash Deep looked sharper, but Mohammed Siraj could keep his place, while Kuldeep Yadav is likely to play here.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh arrived on these shores after a 2-0 series win in Pakistan, but were unable to live up to the expectations in the first match.

They did well to push India to a corner at 144 for 6, but the counterattack from Ashwin and Jadeja proved to be too much for the visitors. The match was decided in the first innings, as their batting collapsed to 149 all out.

There were enough glimpses in Bangladesh’s performance, but they will have to be consistent over five days to put up any fight.

Bangladesh Team News

Shakib Al Hasan apparently played with an injury in the first match but is likely to be available for selection here. Their top-order was too left-hand heavy, but the only change they could make is to bring Mahmudul Hasan Joy for one of the left-hand openers.

Verdict

Bangladesh troubled India in the first Test and even had an upper hand for most of the first day. Yet, as things unfolded and the Test went on, their fight fizzled—especially with the bat in the first innings. Will things repeat in Kanpur? Either way, India looks well-settled to continue their winning sequence against Bangladesh.
