India vs West Indies 3rd ODI Preview & Tips
India roared to an incredible eight-wicket win over the West Indies in a match that saw 811 runs scored.
The West Indies could not defend a score of 405/7 in the second ODI as they saw any hopes of winning their ODI series against India extinguished.
- Virat Kohli averages 78.86 in the ODI game in 2026
Head To Head
India have won nine of their last 10 ODI's against the Windies, with the touring side winning just once in this time.
India Form
India saw the West Indies hammer their way to an impressive 405/7 in their 50 overs with three touring batters posting centuries. With their bowling attack taken to the cleaners, India knew they needed to start well.
That is exactly what they did as they smashed their way to 255/1 as Rohit Sharma fell for 101 after 26.2 overs. Not perturbed by Virat Kohli falling for 29 from 18, Shubman Gill returned a match-winning 223 not out from just 133. The captain's innings saw him notch 26 boundaries and eight maximums in one of the great ODI innings.
Posting 406/2 after 43.3 overs, in that form, India would have felt they could have pushed close to the 500-run mark if they were able to bat through to the end of their 50 overs. This victory saw India confirm their series win, and I predict that they will not suffer from the same sort of drop as many teams slump to once the series is over as a contest.
Virat Kohli was the only player to really miss out in India's chase, and I back him to better his score of 29 from 19 in the second ODI as he goes on the attack against the West Indies.
West Indies Form
The West Indies looked very good with the bat but, on a day when over 800 runs were scored, they came out on the wrong side of an eight-wicket defeat.
Centuries for John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo saw the Windies build to an imposing score of 405/7. While they had plenty of runs on the board, an inability to remove either of Rohit Sharma (101) or Shubman Gill (223) saw the home side break the back of the chase as they scored 255 runs without losing a wicket.
While they did remove Virat Kohli cheaply, the damage was already done as Gill ensured his side would cruise to victory. Nine defeats in their last 10 ODI's against India shows the Windies have been nowhere near good enough to beat their opponents. With another pulsating match on the table in the final ODI, I predict that the tourists will slump to a third consecutive defeat.
Verdict
I am backing India to secure a 3-0 series win as Virat Kohli goes well with the bat.
