India vs West Indies 5th T20 Preview & Tips
India could not chase down a mammoth score of 248 in the fourth T20 as their batting unit was given a taste of its own medicine, thus seeing the series kept alive at 2-2.
The West Indies were exceptionally good in the fourth T20 as Shai Hope led from the front with a match-winning 102 not out.
- Shai Hope has scored 52, 102 not out, five and 102 not out across the series
- India have won eight of their last 10 in the T20 game
Head To Head
Across their last 10 T20's, India have won five times, while the Windies have also secured five wins.
India Form
India will have known they were in real trouble as soon as Shai Hope was able to settle into his innings as the Windies' most destructive batter hammered their bowlers to all corners.
His 102 not out set the West Indies on their way to 247/3, and this always looked like a big ask. Despite starting briskly as they made it to 67/1 after 4.3 overs, regular wickets began to peg them back as they were reduced to 130/5. They did rally, but Tilak Varma (43) fell with the score at 200, and India's chances fell with him.
Bowled out for 223, their 24-run loss further highlighted that they are not able to take a second's breath against the Windies. The fifth T20 constitutes the chance to win the series, and I back them to do just that, but they have been given a reminder that they cannot take anything for granted in the shortest format.
West Indies Form
The West Indies were outstanding in the fourth T20 as they kept the series alive as a contest in a thrilling win.
Batting first, the Windies roared to 247/3 courtesy of a sparkling unbeaten century from Shai Hope. His 102 came from 50 deliveries with the captain securing just four boundaries as he traded in maximums, smashing nine sixes in a stunning display of hitting.
Their score always looked very competitive, and it ultimately proved too much for the home side. Despite seeing Sanju Samson (56) and Abhishek Sharma (29) start well, players struggled to build on solid starts as they were bundled out for 223.
Now, with the series on the line, the pressure has ramped up another level. There has been a lot to like in this West Indies side across the series. They have hammered 200+ runs in three of their four innings, while they were competitive even in their third T20 defeat.
However, I predict that the class in this Indian side will shine through in this one. Shai Hope will likely lead from the front again as he looks to plunder more runs, but I am not backing this improving side to secure a statement series win.
Verdict
I am backing India to get over the line in the fifth T20 despite more heroics from Hope.
