India vs Zimbabwe Women 1st ODI Preview & Tips

India Women come into their clash with Zimbabwe hot on the heels of their dominant 3-0 T20 series win over the same opponent.

Zimbabwe Women are hoping to build on a stunning four-wicket win over the West Indies in late September, although this win was immediately followed by a 91-run loss to the same opponents mere days later.

The pair have met three times in the ODI game with India winning all three matches.

India Women Form

India Women are looking to build on an impressive 12-game winning run across formats that spans all the way back to their six-wicket loss to Australia back in June.

Since then, India have cruised to some massive wins over a range of opponents. Their last series saw them beat Zimbabwe in the T20 game by four wickets, nine wickets and 92 runs. The difference between the pair was apparent across the contest, but India will get another chance to double-down on their superiority.

The one interesting factor is that India arrive for this one on the back of three consecutive ODI defeats to Australia and six defeats in their last nine in the ODI game. India are a lot better than their form in the ODI game suggests, although four defeats to the Aussies, a loss to England and a defeat at the hands of South Africa in the 50 over format is hardly embarrassing.

Fresh off the back of their 3-0 T20 win over Zimbabwe, Smriti Mandhana will lead her side into this ODI series hoping to star with the bat. The captain is India's outstanding player, and I back her to utilise the extra overs in the 50 over game to build a serious score in the first ODI as she leads the home team to victory.

Zimbabwe Women Form

Zimbabwe Women will know that a 6-0 double series loss to India is very much on the cards after their woes in the T20 game were extended by their hosts.

Positively, Zimbabwe only lost two of their three previous ODI's against the West Indies, with their four-wicket win their first triumph in the 50 over game since their 33-run win over the UAE in September of 2025. However, this win was sandwiched by heavy defeats by 99 runs and 91 runs, with their victory more a flash in the pan.

While the West Indies are a good side, they are not in the same bracket as India. The difference between the team that hammered Zimbabwe in two of their three meetings and their hosts is large, and I predict that they will slip to a big loss in the first ODI.

I am backing India to cruise into a 1-0 lead over Zimbabwe as Mandhana starts the series as she means to go on with the bat.
