India vs Zimbabwe Women 1st T20 Preview & Tips

India Women are looking to build on a winning run at the Women’s Asian Games as they hammered Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final.

Zimbabwe Women were humbled by the West Indies in their three-game T20 series as the side failed to get anywhere near their opponents.

This will be the first time India and Zimbabwe have met in a competitive Twenty20 match.

India Women Form

India Women have been outstanding across their last cluster of T20 matches, with their last eight all ending in victory.

Their six-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia saw their T20 World Cup campaign come to an end, but since then they have built an impressive winning run. Indeed, wins over Thailand, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Bangladesh twice, Sri Lanka twice and Japan has seen the side win big in every game they have played.

Despite battling in the latter-stages of the Asian Games in September, India were still able to hammer Bangladesh by 114 runs in the semi-final before lifting the trophy on the back of a 147-run win over Sri Lanka.

Smriti Mandhana takes over as captain ahead of the series and it will be very interesting to see whether taking the captaincy will impact her run scoring. I believe it will only spur her on, and I am backing Mandhana to lead from the front in an impressive outing.

Zimbabwe Women Form

Zimbabwe Women face one of the toughest tests in women’s cricket this week as they take on India in India.

For Zimbabwe, this series could not come at a worse time. Their T20 series with the West Indies ended in a 3-0 loss as a trio of eight-wicket defeats saw their woeful losing run in the T20 game extend to 20 matches.

Zimbabwe need to take on a side that they have a genuine chance of beating, but that will not come in this series. Any chance of winning a match in this series will require perfect displays with bat and ball, and I predict that this is beyond the touring side in this series.

I am backing Mandhana to impress with the bat as she leads her side into a 1-0 series lead over Zimbabwe.
