Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians Preview & Tips
Kolkata Knight Riders are in desperate need of a win over Mumbai Indians in their penultimate game of the season as they hunt for a playoff spot.
Mumbai Indians are looking to end their season on a high, with the side already out of contention for a playoff berth.
- KKR have only lost one of their last six (W5)
Head To Head
KKR have won five of their last 10 against MI, with the latter winning the other five games.
Kolkata Knight Riders Form
Kolkata Knight Riders kept their playoff hopes alive with a timely 29-run win over Gujarat Titans at the weekend.
Finn Allen pummelled his way to 93 from 35 as he helped his side onto 247/2. In reply, GT struggled to keep pace with their opponents as they closed with 218 runs on the board. Despite only losing four wickets, GT were not given any real room to seriously challenge KKR’s score in a match that the latter's bowlers ably matched their batters.
Victory saw Kolkata rise to 11 points in the standings with two games to come. With a maximum of 15 points on offer, Kolkata can finish in the top four, but they need to win their final two and hope other results go their way.
While Mumbai Indians have been better of late, I do not back them to get anything out of this game as their hosts storm to a crucial win.
Mumbai Indians Form
Mumbai Indians have been incredibly disappointing this season, with their inability to win more than four of their 12 matches costing them any chance of a top four spot.
On a more positive note, Mumbai have been able to double their win count for the season across their last three matches. Wins over Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings sandwiched a battling two-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore. When MI have found their rhythm, they have been tough to beat. However, finding their rhythm is clearly easier said than done.
With their IPL season ending at the group stage, MI only have two matches left to play in 2026. While they will aim for two wins in their final two as they look to avoid finishing at the bottom of the standings, I am backing against MI beating a KKR side that is looking for a crucial win.
Verdict
I am backing KKR to secure both points as they keep their hopes of a top four spot alive.
