Pakistan vs Bangladesh Asian Games Preview & Tips

Like the other three remaining sides at the Asian Games, Pakistan are yet to take to the field, meaning their last T20 game came all the way back in February as they beat Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh eased to a four-wicket win over Zimbabwe in their last T20 as they made it consecutive wins in the shortest format.

Bangladesh have won three of their last 10 T20's against Pakistan with the latter winning the other seven.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan are hoping to better a disappointing run of just three wins across their last 10 across all three formats of the game.

Heading into this one, Pakistan were completely outplayed by England in the Test format. Their 3-0 Test defeat once again showcased the difference between Pakistan and the top sides in the game. Now, with a switch back to the shortest format, the side need to hit the ground running after seven months without a T20 outing.

While Pakistan boast a good record against Bangladesh in the T20 game, they have been far too inconsistent across formats. They have the players to challenge most sides, but inconsistency with bat and ball in the T20 game can see a likely win evade a side.

While I predict that this will be a tight match, I am not backing Pakistan to take their place in the final as they slump to a frustrating loss.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh were able to bring a run of five consecutive T20 defeats to an end in July as they secured a pair of wins over Zimbabwe.

These victories saw Bangladesh notch a 2-1 series win over their opponents, allowing the side to bounce back from a 1-1 series draw with New Zealand and a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Australia. While the quality of both sides was very high, Bangladesh's losing run would have been a major worry.

Heading into their Asian games semi-final, Bangladesh will need to change tact from the Test format to the shortest style of the game. A nine-wicket Test win over Australia was followed by a 51-run loss to the same opponent, with Bangladesh flexing their ability to beat the best.

While a Test match and a T20 are two very different propositions, I am backing Bangladesh to secure the win as they prove they are a step ahead of their opponents.

I am backing Bangladesh to knock Pakistan out of the Asian Games as they take their place in the final.
