Pakistan vs Hong Kong Asian Games Preview & Tips

Pakistan return to the T20 game for the first time since they beat Sri Lanka by five runs at the World Cup back in February.

Hong Kong beat Oman by 41 runs in their last outing as they bounced back from an eight-wicket loss to Malaysia.

The pair have only met twice before in the T20 game, with Pakistan wining both matches.

Pakistan are in need of a shot in the arm after a run of seven defeats across their last 10 matches in all formats.

Three heavy defeats to England in the Test game saw their eight-wicket win over the Windies in the longest format count for little. In the 50 over game, Pakistan did manage to beat Australia 2-1 in their series, but this seemed like more of a failing from Australia rather than Pakistan truly being back at the top level.

The Asian Games provides the side with a place in the quarter finals, with just three games standing between themselves and a trophy. While Hong Kong will be desperate to prove they can secure a monumental upset, I do not see Pakistan losing this one.

Captain Sahibzada Farhan has been in fine form with the bat across 2026, averaging 49.78 this year. I back him to storm to another good score as Pakistan avoid an exit at the hands of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Form

Hong Kong were very impressive in their last match as they battled to a competitive score of 121/8 before restricting Oman to 80/6.

Their good score came despite slumping to 11/2 after 2.3 overs. They rallied well and did not allow the scoring rate to drop too low as the side went at just above six-runs-per-over. While they did not bowl Oman out, they did at least keep their own economy rate down, with no bowler going at above a run-per-ball.

While they impressed in the last round, the standard of opposition skyrockets in this one. A score of 121 may have been very competitive in the group-stage, but it will not likely be anywhere near enough against Pakistan. Early wickets are vital if Hong Kong are to challenge, but I do not see them extending their run at the competition.

I am backing Sahibzada Farhan to lead Pakistan to victory as Hong Kong are eliminated in the quarter finals.
