Pakistan vs Sri Lanka ODI Preview & Tips

Pakistan secured a brilliant win over England in their last outing in the ODI tri-series as they beat their out-of-form opponents in a stunning one-wicket win.

Sri Lanka will still be on cloud nine following their incredible two-wicket win over England as the side chased down the former's score of 429/4.

  • Pakistan have won four of their last five in the ODI game (L1)
  • Sri Lanka have lost three of their last five in the 50 over format (W2)

Head To Head

Across their last 10 meetings, Pakistan have won nine matches and Sri Lanka have secured a single win back in 2023.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan were the latest side to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against England as they battled to a one-wicket win as Shadab Khan’s sublime unbeaten 113 saw the home side to victory.

Despite restricting England to 19/3 and 52/4, Pakistan struggled to get rid of Ben Duckett, whose score of 105 helped England limp to 241 all out. In reply, Pakistan were on the canvas at 31/3 and 154/9, but Shadab Khan would not be denied as he smashed 13 boundaries and five maximums on his way to a match-winning century.

On another day, things would likely have been different, but Khan took his chance with both hands in an innings of real quality. Against Sri Lanka, Pakistan will want to turn three wins into four in the tri-series, and I back them to do just that.

Pakistan boast wins in their last five ODI’s against Sri Lanka, and I predict that this run will continue as the home side back up their win over England with victory against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka secured arguably the win of the tri-series so far as they posted a score of 430/8 to ensure that England were left stunned.

Despite struggling to get rid of Harry Brook who returned a score of 202 from 116, Sri Lanka impressed with the bat as a range of players made scores. Pavan Rathnayake’s 130 from 106 was the pick of the bunch, although Janith Liyanage’s 61 from 27 was an innings of exceptional hitting.

Now, attention switches to trying to secure their place in the final of the tri-series. Despite only winning once, Sri Lanka will know that a win in this one would ensure that they are too far ahead of England ahead of their clash in the final group game. However, with Pakistan impressing of late, I predict that Sri Lanka will see their hopes of securing their place in the final go down to their clash with England.

Verdict

I am backing Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka as the latter fail to build on their win over England.
