Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI Preview & Tips
Zimbabwe were just about good enough in the first ODI as their bowlers proved the difference in a low-scoring game.
Bangladesh's batting unit let their bowlers down as they slumped to a 25-run loss after being skittled for 116.
- Nahid Rana took six wickets for Bangladesh in the first ODI
- Bangladesh have won four of their last six ODI's (L2)
Head To Head
Bangladesh have won seven of their last 10 ODI's against Zimbabwe, with the latter winning the other three.
Zimbabwe Form
Zimbabwe were lucky to breach the 100-run mark in the first ODI as they were indebted to a plucky stand from number nine Newman Nyamhuri (33 from 51) and number 10 Richard Ngarava (27 from 41) as the pair dragged their side towards the 150-run mark.
On a surface that proved incredibly tough to bat on, Zimbabwe saw six single-figure scores. Perhaps more frustrating was their top three all making starts and struggling to kick on. While the surface was clearly bowler friendly, Zimbabwe's number nine and 10 showed it was not impossible to score on.
While their score of 141 did not look imposing, Zimbabwe's bowlers set about taking regular wickets as they skittled their opponents for 116 in a low scoring meeting. While they did excel in the field, something needs to change for Zimbabwe in the second ODI. While their bowlers had enough to bowl Bangladesh out this time, continually defending scores like 141 is not a recipe for consistent success.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh were outstanding with the ball in the first ODI as they used the conditions to their advantage. Nahid Rana took 6/21 in a stunning spell of bowling that saw him tear through Zimbabwe's batting unit.
However, as good as they were with the ball, they were desperately bad with the bat. Chasing 142 to win, Bangladesh crumbled as nine of their batters returned 10 runs or less. While the surface was clearly tough to bat on, Bangladesh will still be incredibly disappointed with how they played.
Fortunately for the touring side, they were so good with the ball that they have something to cling to heading into the second ODI. If Nahid Rana can continue to impress with the ball then Zimbabwe will struggle, while if the touring side can weave together a more well-rounded display in the second ODI then they should have no problems winning this one.
Verdict
I am backing Bangladesh to secure a big win over Zimbabwe as Nahid Rana continues to take wickets.
