Matchweek 1 of the Premier League brought plenty of drama, with some expected results and a few surprising twists based on the odds.

As we move into Matchweek 2, the betting lines from Stake provide some interesting opportunities for football punters looking for value. Let’s break it down.

Looking Back at Matchweek 1

Favorites largely held their ground last weekend. Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham all delivered convincing wins, comfortably justifying their short odds.

Arsenal also squeezed out a result, while Chelsea vs Crystal Palace finished goalless, which would have been a good payday for anyone backing the draw.

The real surprise came from Sunderland, who dominated West Ham 3-0 despite being the outsider in the market. Nottingham Forest’s home win against Brentford also rewarded those who looked beyond the odds.

Matchweek 2 Fixtures and Odds

Bournemouth vs Wolves
  • Bournemouth: 1.82
  • Draw: 3.90
  • Wolves: 4.20

Bournemouth are heavy favorites after a tough but spirited showing against Liverpool. Wolves, however, carry long odds that might be tempting considering Bournemouth’s inconsistency.

Brentford vs Aston Villa
  • Brentford: 3.20
  • Draw: 3.50
  • Aston Villa: 2.26

Villa were held scoreless in Week 1 but still come in as favorites. Brentford’s home advantage at 3.20 could present good value, especially after Forest’s win last week highlighted how mid-table clubs can spring surprises.

Burnley vs Sunderland
  • Burnley: 2.27
  • Draw: 3.20
  • Sunderland: 3.50

This one looks tricky. Sunderland shocked the odds in Matchweek 1, and at 3.50 for an away win, there’s real value if they carry that momentum. Burnley are slight favorites but far from convincing.

Arsenal vs Leeds
  • Arsenal: 1.29
  • Draw: 6.00
  • Leeds: 10.00

Arsenal are overwhelming favorites, and rightly so after a steady opening win. Leeds’ odds reflect the gulf in quality – backing them would be a massive risk. The real angle here is whether Arsenal can cover handicaps or win with a clean sheet.

Everton vs Brighton
  • Everton: 3.15
  • Draw: 3.35
  • Brighton: 2.35

Everton looked toothless in attack during Week 1, while Brighton remain a solid, high-pressing side. Brighton at 2.35 looks fair value, though a draw at 3.35 could also be on the cards.

Crystal Palace vs Nottingham Forest
  • Palace: 2.40
  • Draw: 3.30
  • Forest: 3.15

Palace couldn’t score in their opener, while Forest impressed. At 3.15, Forest may be slightly undervalued by the market.

Fulham vs Manchester United
  • Fulham: 3.30
  • Draw: 3.55
  • Manchester United: 2.19

United stumbled in their opener against Arsenal but will be looking to bounce back. At 2.19, they remain favorites, though Fulham’s home odds could attract risk-takers.

Newcastle vs Liverpool
  • Newcastle: 3.30
  • Draw: 3.90
  • Liverpool: 2.08

A blockbuster to close Matchweek 2. Liverpool impressed against Bournemouth and carry short odds, but Newcastle at 3.30 at home could be a sneaky bet – especially with Liverpool prone to defensive lapses.

Where’s the Value?

  • Sunderland at 3.50: They stunned in Matchweek 1, and Burnley don’t look unbeatable.
  • Nottingham Forest at 3.15: Strong opening display, worth a punt against Palace.
  • Newcastle at 3.30: Home crowd could tilt things against Liverpool’s high line.

For safe bets, Arsenal and Manchester City (against Tottenham) remain the most reliable heavy favorites.
