USA vs Australia

The USA return to the pitch after their impressive 4-1 win over Paraguay in their opening match of the World Cup, with the co-hosts able to give their fans hope that they may be able to top their group at the tournament. This victory was only their second across their last three games, with a 3-2 win over Senegal coming alongside a 2-1 loss to Germany. While the USA have beaten their opponents in their two previous meetings, their clash at this World Cup may be different. While the co-hosts easily beat Paraguay, they will take on a solid Australian side that will look to give them no space to work in.

Australia were outstanding in their first match of the 2026 World Cup as they stormed to a 2-0 win over Türkiye. Despite being the underdogs heading into the match, the Aussies enjoyed the better of the game as they found a way to frustrate their opponents before striking twice. The USA will give them some real problems in this one, but the Aussies have been able to knit together defensive solidity and goal-scoring so far. Despite being the underdogs, I am backing the Aussies in the double chance market along with a draw. Australia will relish the chance to spoil the USA's party, and I back them to extend their unbeaten run at the tournament.

Scotland vs Morocco

Scotland enjoyed a winning start to their 2026 World Cup campaign as they beat Haiti 1-0. Roared on by their expectant fans, the Scottish were deserving of all three points in a match in which they really impressed. Victory made it three consecutive wins following victories over Curacao (4-1) and Bolivia (4-0). While the Scottish will be confident that they can beat Morocco, I saw enough in the performance of the latter to convince me that they will hold Scotland. Despite failing to make it successive wins, four points from two games is a decent place for Scotland to be.

Morocco took a point from their toughest opponents in Group C as they ensured the favourites to win the group were denied a winning start. Brazil's failure to win was as much built on their own struggles to score a second goal as it was Morocco's ability to frustrate them. This draw was their second on the spin after they played in an impressive 1-1 friendly with Norway earlier in the month. Prior to this, they had won four consecutive games. While Morocco are the favourites to win this one, I predict the pair will share the points in another battling display. With a match against Haiti awaiting while Scotland face Brazil, Morocco will likely target avoiding defeat in this one before trying to win their final group game.

Netherlands vs Sweden

The Netherlands were left frustrated by their inability to kill off their game against Japan as they dropped two points in a 2-2 draw. After an insipid first-half, the Netherlands went 1-0 up via Virgil van Dijk. However, Japan made it 1-1 before the Dutch went 2-1 up. With the points calling, the Netherlands switched off as they allowed Japan to score in the 89th minute to secure a point. This draw means the Dutch have drawn two of their last four in all competitions, with one defeat and one win coming alongside these stalemates.

Sweden were brilliant in their clash with Tunisia as they blew their opponents away in a 5-1 win. Two first-half goals were followed by three strikes in the second-half as Sweden opened their account at the tournament in style. The head to head between the pair sees the Dutch leading with three wins from six meetings. Sweden have won once while there have been two draws, with the Dutch generally coming out on top. With the Netherlands drawing two of their last three while Sweden have avoided defeat in five of their last six, I am backing the latter to take something from this game as they stun the Dutch.

Verdict

I am backing Australia and Sweden to take something from their respective games against the USA and the Netherlands as Scotland vs Morocco ends in a draw.
