Fenerbahce vs Gornik Zabrze
Fenerbahce have not played a competitive game since their 3-3 draw with Eyupspor back on May 17. Since then, they have played three friendlies across July, with this their only preparation for their Champions League qualifying campaign. Fortunate for Fenerbahce is the fact they have won all three matches with an aggregate score of 11-1 along with two clean sheets. Heading into this one, the home side are the big favourites, and I back them to swat their opponents aside as they take a lead into the second-leg.
Gornik Zabrze were beaten 3-1 by Lech Poznan in their last outing as their cup match ended in defeat. This extends a worrying run of results in which the travelling side have won one of their last four across competitions. This streak also involves a draw and two defeats, with both losses coming on the road. While they will look to hang on in the first-leg, I predict they will have to do things the hard way after losing the first-leg without scoring.
Sturm Graz vs Hearts
Sturm Graz have played a string of friendlies across the end of June into July. Six games have come and gone with four matches ended in wins along with a single draw and loss. While their last outing ended in a tight 1-0 win over Pogon Szczecin, they hammered Kalsdorf 4-1 before beating Sanfrecce Hiroshima 5-1. Their run of three successive wins is impressive, and I back them to head into the second-leg with the lead after an entertaining meeting on their own patch.
Hearts saw their domestic season end with a 3-1 loss to Celtic before having to wait just short of two months to get back on the pitch. Since returning, they have lost 2-1 to Livingston before beating Arbroath and Rayo Vallecano by the same score. All three of their friendlies have seen both sides score, with Hearts not able to keep clean sheets. With a home game to come in the second-leg, Hearts will likely fancy their chances in the tie as long as they are no further than a goal adrift. I back both sides to score in this one as the home side stun the visitors.
Verdict
I am backing Fenerbahce to beat their opponents to nil as Sturm Graz beat Hearts with over 2.5 goals scored.
