Afghanistan vs India 2nd T20 Preview & Tips
Afghanistan got nowhere near a competitive total in the first T20 as they saw their score of 156/8 easily chased down by their superior opponents.
India were outstanding with the bat in the first T20 as they needed just 13.4 overs to cruise to their target of 157.
- Afghanistan have lost three of their last five in the T20 game (W2)
Head To Head
The pair have only met nine times before in the T20 game, with India winning all nine outings.
Afghanistan Form
Afghanistan were staring at the possibility of being bowled out for well below 100 runs in the first T20 as they slumped to 43/5 after seven overs.
While they did rally well to post a score of 156/8, this always looked underwhelming, and so it proved. Despite boasting one of the most miserly bowlers in the game in Rashid Khan, even he received some treatment as he went for 34 runs in 3.4 overs. India had seven wickets and 38 deliveries remaining when they secured the win, meaning Afghanistan would likely have needed in excess of 200 to have been truly competitive in the first T20.
Afghanistan's hopes of winning the second T20 revolve around a near-perfect team performance. If India's batting unit doesn't go big, their bowlers usually take wickets or vice versa. Afghanistan have the quality to score big with the bat and restrict their opponents with the ball, but I do not see everything coming together for the home side as India continue to showcase their dominance.
India Form
India enjoyed a winning return to the T20 format against Afghanistan as they roared to a simple seven-wicket win over their opponents.
While Jasprit Bumrah only went for 26 runs, he was not the star of the show with the ball as Arshdeep Singh plundered three wickets for just 19 runs. With the bat, Abhishek Sharma smashed a stunning 82 from 32 which included seven maximums, as many as Afghanistan's entire team managed.
Their win in the first T20 was their ninth consecutive triumph over their opponents in the shortest format. It also constitutes their fourth successive win in the T20 game. Considering they had lost their previous six T20's, their four-game winning run is a welcome return to form.
Ishan Kishan impressed in the first T20 with 42 from 33, although he was outdone by Sharma. Despite this, I back Kishan to go well with the bat again in the second T20 as he builds on his average of 30.00 in the shortest format with another score.
Verdict
I am backing India to storm into a 2-0 series lead over Afghanistan as Ishan Kishan puts Afghanistan's bowlers to the sword.
