New Zealand vs India 4th T20 Preview & Tips
New Zealand were blown away by India in the third T20 as they saw any hopes of keeping the series alive as a contest brought to an end by the batting fireworks of the touring side.
India were outstanding with the bat in the third T20 as they roared to 199/4 in just 13.2 overs to once again showcase their exceptional batting talent.
- India have won the five-match series with two games to be played
Head To Head
Across their last 10 T20's, India have secured nine wins while New Zealand have won once.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand would have been pleased with their score of 198/3 in the third T20 as Daryl Mitchell played a starring role after smashing 89 not out from 52. His five boundaries and five maximums saw the number three help to set a competitive total as New Zealand looked to keep the series alive as a contest.
However, they were completely outdone in the batting department as Abhishek Sharma's 113 from 38 won India the game in double-quick time. Only Mitchell Santner could go below 13.00 per over as Matthew Fisher (1/23) returned an economy rate of 23.00 after bowling a single over.
On another day, 198/3 might have turned out to be a winning score, but the fact India had 40 deliveries and six wickets to spare means New Zealand would likely have needed in excess of 250 to seriously challenge the touring side.
The one positive for the Black Caps will be that sides that have won a series can often take their foot off the accelerator. This will likely give New Zealand a route into the fourth T20 and I back them to finally end their losing run against India. New Zealand have continually shown that they have the ability to push India, and I back this to be the game they get a win.
India Form
India put their exceptional batting power on full display in the third T20 as they surged to 199/4 in 13.2 overs as they put New Zealand's bowlers to the sword. Their opening pair went at 236.84 or more and scored 158 between them in a stunning knock that broke the back of the chase.
If India had been setting the total, they would likely have been looking at around 250+ in a game built for batting. India have really underlined their claim to being the best side in the men's T20 game, and on the evidence across their last game against New Zealand, it is hard to argue with it.
The fourth T20 will be an interesting prospect as New Zealand are 3-0 down but have not been bad. Taking wickets and keeping the economy rate down will be their focus, but with India already securing the series, I predict that the travelling side will stumble as they take their foot off the gas.
Verdict
I am backing New Zealand to secure a win in the fourth T20 as they get on the board in the series.
