England vs India 2nd T20 Preview & Tips
England were denied the chance to chase down a score of 189 in the first T20 as the British summer saw the clash rained off.
India looked in good touch with the bat in the first T20 against England as they posted a score of 189/7 in their 20 overs.
- Abhishek Sharma scored 59 from 24 in the first T20
- India have lost their last two T20's
Head To Head
India have won seven of their last 10 T20's against England with the latter winning three matches in this time.
England Form
England were given a good workout with the ball in the opening T20 as they restricted India to 189/7 despite some big-hitting from India's top-order.
Saqib Mahmood looked good with the ball as he took 3/33 with this including top scorer and captain Shreyas Iyer, opener Sanju Samson and the dangerous Tilak Varma. His bowling kept India honest in a match they could have run away in.
Now, the focus will switch to bowling with more intent as they try to ensure that India are left well short of 200 if they bat first. With the bat themselves, England will want to start quickly with Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, and if the pair can get up ahead of steam, then England will score quickly.
India Form
India did not get the chance to defend their score of 189/7, with the weather proving to be the only winner in the first T20.
The woes of Sanju Samson (one from seven) and Ishan Kishan (zero from two) in the first T20 will be a worry, but they will have the chance to bounce back in quick time with the second T20 set for Saturday. Shreyas Iyer top scored with 68 from 47, but I was most impressed by Abhishek Sharma, who smashed his way to 59 from 24 with a strike rate of 245.83.
Sharma looked in ruthless mood as he smashed England's bowlers for six boundaries and four maximums in a brutal display of hitting. He will be central to England's plans in this one as they look to ensure he is unable to go big once again.
Verdict
While I back Sharma to impress with the bat once again, I predict that he will end on the wrong side of the score as India go 1-0 down in the series.
