Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals Preview & Tips

Gujarat Titans were hammered by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL Qualifier as they slipped to a damning 92-run loss.

Rajasthan Royals stormed to a 47-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad as they proved that position in the standings means little as the fourth placed side eliminated third.

  • GT have won six of their last eight in the IPL (L2)
  • RR have lost four of their last six against GT (W2)

Head To Head

In their last 10 meetings, GT have won seven times with RR winning the other three.

Gujarat Titans Form

Gujarat Titans could not get anywhere near Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL Qualifier as their bowlers were smashed for 254 runs before their batters were skittled for 162.

Even the likes of Mohammed Siraj (0/46), Kagiso Rabada (2/54) and Rashid Khan (0/29) were not spared as RCB sent the ball to all corners of the pitch. With the bat, Rahul Tewatia (68 from 43) and Jos Buttler (29 from 11) showed signs of counter-attacking, but they were unable to get GT close to their mammoth target.

Both playoff matches have seen the side batting first build huge scores in excess of 240, and runs on the board will likely prove crucial in the second Eliminator. If GT can bat first and set a score without the pressure of keeping up with a required run rate then I back them to secure the win in this one as they set up a shot at revenge against RCB.

Rajasthan Royals Form

Rajasthan Royals seemed to take finishing fourth in the regular season of the IPL personally as they humiliated Sunrisers Hyderabad in an incredibly one-sided Eliminator.

In their clash with SRH, RR stormed to 243/8 before restricting SRH to just 196. Jofra Archer (3/58) impressed with the ball but the star of the show was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with the youngster pummelling his was to 97 from just 29 deliveries. This innings included 12 maximums, more than the entirety of SRH’s batting unit in their clash.

The focus for RR in this one will be on trying to build around their superstar. If he is able to build any momentum then it will likely end in RR posting a massive score. While I predict a high-scoring match, I do not back RR to turn things around quickly enough as they slip to a frustrating loss against a side they have struggled against in their last 10 meetings.

Verdict

I am backing GT to show some serious fight as they bounce back from their stunning loss as they book their shot at the trophy.
