Zimbabwe vs India 2nd T20 Preview & Tips
Zimbabwe were no match for India in the first T20 as they saw their score of 125/7 easily chased down by the touring side.
India were outstanding in the first T20 against Zimbabwe as they put a run of six consecutive defeats in the T20 game behind them.
- Zimbabwe have lost their last six T20's against India
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi top scored with 50 from 19 for India in the first T20
Head To Head
India have won nine of their last 10 T20's against Zimbabwe with the latter winning once back in 2024.
Zimbabwe Form
Zimbabwe slumped to a third consecutive T20 defeat as a pair of losses to Bangladesh were quickly followed by a seven-wicket loss to the touring side.
In the first T20, Zimbabwe trundled to 125/7 from their 20 overs. This score always looked like it would be well short of truly competitive, with their top four batters combining for just 20 runs. Their middle order did rally, but it was too little, too late as they went from 32/4 after 7.2 overs to 125/7.
While they did take an early wicket with the ball, they failed to deal with the sensational Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he plundered 50 runs from 19 deliveries at 263.16. As soon as the youngster got himself in, Zimbabwe were always going to struggle.
Across their last seven matches, they have lost six times by margins of 107 runs, 72 runs, five wickets, 34 runs, four wickets and seven wickets. Clearly, Zimbabwe have struggled to keep up with their opponents when they are on top, and it means that I am backing them to slump to a second loss at the hands of India in this series and a fourth consecutive T20 defeat.
India Form
India arrived for their T20 series against Zimbabwe on the back of a stunning run of six consecutive defeats across their last six completed matches.
Their seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe in their last outing was a much-needed return to form, with the touring side impressing. With a number of newer faces crammed into their T20 team, India are building. Poor results will be the hallmark of a team building up on their experience, meaning a trip to take on England, who are arguably the best T20 side in the men's game, was always going to be a tough assignment.
With Zimbabwe a far more beatable opponent, India clicked into gear. Restricting their opponents to a shade above a run-per-ball meant they were in the ascendancy, and as soon as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started to get going, it was always going to be a long afternoon for the home side.
Sooryavanshi's exploits in the first T20 spells trouble for Zimbabwe, and I predict that he will star again as he continues to showcase his incredible ability with the bat.
Verdict
I am backing Sooryavanshi to go beyond the 30-run mark as India cruise to a second successive win over Zimbabwe.
