Sunrisers Leeds vs Southern Brave Preview & Tips
Sunrisers Leeds saw their score of 143 all out prove nowhere near enough in their clash with MI London as their opponents romped to a seven-wicket win.
Southern Brave were stunned by Welsh Fire in their last outing as they failed to remove Phil Salt and paid the price in a six-wicket loss.
- The home side have won their last four against the Brave
Head To Head
Sunrisers have won four of their previous five against the Brave, with the latter winning once back in 2021.
Sunrisers Leeds Form
Sunrisers Leeds looked to be building a good score as Mitch Marsh (41 from 27) and Ryan Rickelton (25 from 16) started well. However, Rickelton fell with the score at 40/1 with Harry Brook (eight) falling soon after. While Sunrisers have a well-stocked batting unit, their middle-order struggled as they were bowled out for 143 with one delivery remaining.
With the ball, Sunrisers were well on top after seeing MI London teetering at 4/2 from eight deliveries. Despite losing Will Jacks (two) and Jason Roy (zero) cheaply, Sam Curran (60 not out) and Nicholas Pooran (58 not out) starred in an unbeaten stand that saw Sunrisers slump to a big defeat.
Defeat in their opener was far from ideal, although losing to the strongest side in the competition is hardly embarrassing. Now, Sunrisers take on an opponent that they have dominated with four successive wins.
While anything can happen in The Hundred, Sunrisers are the favourites heading into this one, and I predict that they will make the most out of home advantage and their excellent run against the Brave to get their first win in 2026.
Southern Brave Form
Southern Brave found accelerating in the middle of their innings against Welsh Fire tough, with the side going from 70/3 after 65 deliveries to 135/7 at the end of their innings. Their score always felt 15 runs short of a truly competitive total, and so it proved.
With the ball, Southern Brave struggled to remove Matt Short (20), Joe Root (15) and Rachin Ravindra (24). While none of the trio could go big, they provided Phil Salt (47 not out) with ample support as the England star drove the Fire to the points.
Frustratingly for the Brave, an excellent bowling unit that includes Jofra Archer, Luke Wood, Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid struggled to make inroads with the ball. I predict that the travelling side will make their mark throughout the competition, but I do not back them in this one. They have struggled against their opponents, while something wasn't clicking in their opener.
A lack of runs is something I expect to see in their second game, and I back the Brave to slump to a second defeat.
Verdict
I am backing the Sunrisers to get their first win of the new campaign as they hand the Brave another defeat.
