Japan vs India Women T20 Preview & Tips

Japan Women edged to an 11-run win over Malaysia in their last match as they battled to ensure their three-game series against their opponent ended 1-1.

India Women hammered Sri Lanka by 72 runs in their last match as the secured the trophy in the Asia Cup in style.

This will be the first time the pair have ever met in a match in the shortest format of the game.

Japan Women Form

Japan Women come into their clash with India knowing that they face one of the great sides in the women's game in what will likely be their first and last outing in the 2026 Asian Games.

Their last match saw Japan bounce back from a frustrating loss to Malaysia with a fighting 11-run win over the same opponent. While they laboured to 105/6 in their 20 overs, they did star with the ball as they skittled Malaysia for just 94.

While they were good value for their win in their last outing, they are impossibly outmatched in this one. India are one of the three best teams in the world and, despite the potential for an upset in any knockout match, Japan are incredibly unlikely to win this one against an opponent that is in great form.

India Women Form

India Women continue to showcase their exceptional ability with bat, ball and in the field as they try to close the gap between themselves and Australia at the top of the game.

Like England, India are desperate to take the next step to consistently matching and beating the Aussies, which is something both have struggled with. While winning the Asia Cup recently saw them hardly tested, it did at least showcase that they are a long way clear of most other nations.

India's five-game winning shows they are in good touch right now, and I see nothing other than a sixth win in this one. Smriti Mandhana notched a superb 59 from 39 against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, and I predict more brilliance from arguably the best batter in the women's game.

I am backing India to easily beat Japan as Mandhana continues to showcase her run-scoring ability in the shortest format.
