Pakistan vs Australia 2nd ODI Preview & Tips

Pakistan were outstanding in the first ODI against Australia with their bowlers in fine form as they bundled the Aussies out for just 200.

Australia will have to go back to the drawing board ahead of the second ODI as they were completely outplayed by their hosts.

  • Australia have lost their last three ODI’s against Pakistan
  • Babar Azam scored 69 in the first ODI

Head To Head

Pakistan have won five of their last 10 ODI’s against Australia, with the Aussies winning the other five.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan were excellent in the first ODI as their batting and bowling units managed to sync up in impressive style.

While they were strong with the bat, it was their bowling unit that caught the eye most. Despite seeing the touring side make it to 62/1, Pakistan roared back into contention as they took the wickets of Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green with the score still in the 60’s.

While Pakistan’s bowling unit on the whole was excellent as each played their part, Arafat Minhas was the man to take the wickets as he tore through Australia’s batting unit by taking 5/32.

While I predict that Australia will be better in the second ODI, I do not see them beating their hosts. Pakistan were excellent, and they will be desperate to make the most out of the momentum they have generated.

Babar Azam continues to impress with the bat as his rejuvenated patch of form continues. I back the talisman of the home team to star once again as Pakistan surge into a 2-0 series lead.

Australia Form

Australia are searching for some kind of consistency in the ODI game after slumping to consecutive defeats along with six defeats across their last 10 in the 50 over game.

Sent in to bat first, the Aussies looked solid at 34 without loss. Despite losing the dangerous Alex Carey for 19, Matt Short surged on, but partners in Josh Inglis (13), Marnus Labuschagne (0) and Cameron Green (0) fell quickly.

While Australia rallied from 68/4 to 123/4, they then lost wickets regularly as they were dismissed for 200. This score always felt like it would be difficult to defend unless they took multiple Pakistan wickets early on. While two fell before the score reached 50 runs, Australia could not keep the pressure on.

I worry that this Aussie side really lacks true grit in the middle. Labuschagne has shown he can frustrate the best, but he has not been in the greatest form for Australia of late. Indeed, with an average of 18.60 in seven ODI’s in 2025, he has struggled to showcase his sticking power.

While Australia will likely be better in the second ODI, I do not back them to secure the win. They have now lost their last three 50 over matches against their opponents, and I predict that this run will continue.

Verdict

I am backing Pakistan to roar into a 2-0 series lead as Babar Azam continues to frustrate Australia’s bowling unit.
