Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Women’s Asian Games Preview & Tips
Pakistan Women held their nerve in their Asian Games quarter-final as they edged past a spirited Thailand in a three-wicket win.
Sri Lanka Women roared to an impressive 86-run win over Malaysia in their quarter-final as they showcased their impressive ability in the shortest format.
- Sri Lanka Women have won eight of their last 10 in the T20 game (L2)
Head To Head
Sri Lanka have won seven of their last 10 T20’s against Pakistan, with the latter winning the other three meetings.
Pakistan Women Form
Pakistan Women almost suffered a major Asian Games upset as they squeezed past Thailand in a match reduced to 11 overs per side.
Bowling first, Pakistan would have been very confident that they could chase down a target of 92 in 66 deliveries. Despite Gull Feroza (16 from 13) and Shawal Zulfiqar (25 from 14) starting well, Pakistan’s middle-order crumbled, with only two of their batters from three to nine able to post a double-digit score.
While they did get over the line, it was a major scramble as they ended the game with three wickets and two deliveries to spare. This victory was a welcome return to winning ways after their four-wicket loss to Sri Lanka earlier in the month.
While Pakistan will hope to channel that winning feeling heading into this one, they have been awful against their opponents in the shortest format. Four defeats in their last five against Sri Lanka shows their opponents have been too strong, and I back more of the same in this one as they slump to a frustrating loss.
Sri Lanka Women Form
Sri Lanka Women were outstanding with bat and ball in their opening Asian Games match as they easily beat Malaysia in a statement win.
Their total of 160/4 always looked someway clear of Malaysia’s capabilities, and so it proved as they restricted their opponents to 74/7. While they were unable to bowl their opponents out, Sri Lanka were able to show that even when the wickets are not tumbling, their bowlers are still tough to score off.
Against Pakistan, Sri Lanka will be very confident. They have won seven of their last 10 against their opponents in the shortest format, while they have won eight of their last 10 outings in the T20 game.
Pakistan will likely be more of a challenge than Malaysia, but I do not predict that it will be enough to truly trouble Sri Lanka.
Verdict
I am backing Sri Lanka to move into the Asian Games final on the back of yet another win over Pakistan.
