West Indies vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Preview & Tips

The West Indies have not been good enough in the ODI game of late with the side arriving for this one on the back of four consecutive defeats.

Sri Lanka have also been enduring their own tough run in the 50 over game after losing five of their last six.

Sri Lanka have only won one of their last six in the ODI game (L5)

Head To Head

The Windies have won four of their last 10 ODI’s against Sri Lanka, with the latter winning the other six.

West Indies Form

The West Indies arrive for their ODI series against Sri Lanka looking to get back to winning ways after their last two outings at the Cricket World Cup against South Africa and India ended in defeat.

In the 50 over game, the Windies have not played since November 2025, with the side losing their last four matches heading into this one. Their most recent series in the 50 over format ended in a 3-0 loss to New Zealand as they were beaten by a far better outfit.

Now, the Windies have the chance to get their first ODI win since October 2025, with the side desperate to make the most out of home conditions. I predict a tight clash in the opening ODI as two out-of-form sides come together. With both desperate for a win, I am backing the West Indies to get the win they sorely need.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka have also struggled for form in the ODI game, with the touring side trundling into their latest series on the back of two successive defeats.

Their pre-World Cup series against England ended in a 2-1 loss to their opponents as they went from 1-0 up to losing the contest. This followed on from three consecutive defeats to Pakistan in November 2025.

Clearly, Sri Lanka have not been at their best in the middle format, and this will likely result in the side fluffing their lines in their opening clash. With their poor form against the Windies in mind, I am backing a tough opener for the touring side.
