Zimbabwe vs South Africa Women 2nd T20 Preview & Tips

Zimbabwe Women could only battle to less than a run per ball 116 as they slumped to a frustrating six-wicket loss at the hands of South Africa.

South Africa Women were outstanding in the first T20 as they starred with bat and ball in an excellent all-round performance.

  • Zimbabwe have lost their last 13 T20's

Head To Head

The pair have only met once before, with South Africa cruising to a six-wicket win in the first T20.

Zimbabwe Women Form

Zimbabwe Women were no match for South Africa in the opening match of their five-game series as they were swatted aside in a six-wicket loss.

This defeat was based on both their batting and bowling units as the home side failed to ever really threaten. At 12/4, Zimbabwe would have been dreaming of making it to the three-figure mark. However, they did rally to post 116 all out, but this always looked well short of truly competitive, and so it proved.

In reply, South Africa hammered their way to 117/4 in 13.1 overs, with the tourists winning with six wickets and 41 deliveries to spare. It felt like Zimbabwe were really panicking in the field, with eight bowlers used and only one going at less than 6.00 an over.

In truth, this was likely a mark of things to come. South Africa are the far better side in this series, and Zimbabwe will need something special to secure a win in any game across the series.

South Africa Women Form

South Africa Women would have been targeting bowling their hosts out for less than 50 after they pinned them back at 12/4 in 3.3 overs. While the home team did find a way to battle back, South Africa's target of 117 to win was well short of truly competitive.

In reply, Laura Wolvaardt may have fallen for just six runs, but Anneke Bosch was able to star as she smashed her way to 83 from 43. Her innings, which contained 11 boundaries and three maximums, took all of the wind out of Zimbabwe's sails in a sensational performance.

Now, the focus will be on building on their victory as they try to turn one win into two. They are hot favourites to win this one and I back them to secure a sixth win in seven in the shortest format. Wolvaardt will have been hugely frustrated to have seen her first outing end in scoring just six runs, and I predict that she will bounce back with a big score.

Verdict

I am backing South Africa to storm into a 2-0 series lead over Zimbabwe as Wolvaardt gets back to scoring runs.
