Zimbabwe vs West Indies Women 2nd ODI Preview & Tips

Zimbabwe Women could not get anywhere near their target of 300 to win as they slumped to a cavernous 99-run defeat against South Africa.

Hayley Matthews was at her very best with the bat in the first ODI for the Windies as she smashed her way to a score of 182 from 156.

The Windies surged to a 99-run win in the first meeting between the pair on September 24.

Zimbabwe Women Form

Zimbabwe Women could not be rid of Hayley Matthews as the West Indies captain notched a stunning score of 182 from 156. With the exception of Realeanna Grimmond (53), the rest of the touring side's batting order struggled, making Zimbabwe's inability to dismiss Matthews even more frustrating.

While Zimbabwe did manage to keep the score below 300, it always looked like a huge task after the Windies had gone beyond 220 runs. While they did battle to 100/2, they lost regular wickets from there as they slumped to 166/7 before eventually being bowled out for 200.

Zimbabwe will target getting Matthews out earlier this time, but this will be far easier said than done. If they can see the back of the Windies' captain then things may be different, although their inability to get anywhere near their target of 300 is telling of the limitations of their batting unit.

West Indies Women Form

Hayley Matthews' score of 182 showcased her claim to being one of the top batters in the women's game, with the captain a real star of the game.

Her 182 from 156 saw her notch 26 boundaries as she smashed two maximums. The one concern will be that the majority of the batting unit failed to really get going. If Zimbabwe can get rid of Matthews early in the second ODI, then the Windies may be in trouble.

However, Zimbabwe's attack looked toothless when it came to getting rid of Matthews, who plundered almost as many runs as Zimbabwe's entire team. While the shorter formats can often see wickets tumble as player look to score quickly, I do not see Zimbabwe removing Matthews early as she runs riot once again.

Verdict

Zimbabwe v West Indies Women 2nd ODI

I am backing Matthews to give Zimbabwe's bowlers nightmares once again as she continues to score runs for her side.
