Indonesia vs Bangladesh ASEAN Cup Preview & Tips

Indonesia secured a battling point on the road against Malaysia in their last game as they extended their unbeaten run in the competition to two matches.

Bangladesh are yet to score a goal at the ASEAN Cup, with their opening two matches ending in defeat.

Currently sat second in Group A, they trail Malaysia at the summit via a slightly inferior goal difference. Victory in this match could send them to the summit, while defeat may see them slip down to third. However, the odds suggest it is very unlikely that Indonesia will lose to the visitors, with both in very different form.

The home side will want to focus on starting well and scoring early. They will also need to be defensively solid, as Bangladesh’s game plan will likely revolve around scoring a single goal and then trying to defend a lead. It will play into Indonesia’s hands if they can force Bangladesh out of their shell.

Their 3-0 loss at home was a very frustrating outing as their hopes of hitting the ground running were dashed. Their 1-0 loss to Singapore has seen them slide four points short of their next opponents in second, meaning this is a must-win game.

While Bangladesh have won once, drawn once and lose once against Indonesia, the odds suggest that this is a very uneven contest. Having failed to score in their last two outings and seeing Indonesia keep a clean sheet in two of their three meetings, I am backing Bangladesh to slide to a tough loss.
