Spain vs Belgium Preview & Tips
Spain edged past Portugal in the Round of 16 as an uninspiring game saw the former triumph in a match few will remember.
Belgium hammered the USA in the last round as they eliminated the co-hosts in a 4-1 triumph.
- Spain are yet to concede a goal at the 2026 World Cup
- Spain have beaten Belgium to nil in their last two meetings
Head To Head
In their last 10 meeting the Spanish have won seven times, with Belgium winning twice and one game ending as a draw.
Spain Form
Spain are yet to really explode into life at the 2026 World Cup and yet they find themselves on the cusp of a semi-final at the tournament.
Their five matches at the competition have ended in four wins to nil and a 0-0 draw with Cape Verde. Clearly, their ability to keep clean sheets is a big driving factor in their success, with three of their five matches seeing Spain score one goal or less. It will be an incredibly interesting prospect to see how Spain might play if they are to concede first.
While Spain were not convincing in their win over Portugal in the Round of 16, they got the job done. The Portuguese had been misfiring all tournament and, with the exception of their win over an average USA side, Belgium have also struggled.
The Spanish are on course to meet France in the semi-finals, and with a mouth-watering game potentially to come, I back Spain to complete the formalities in this one as they knock Belgium out.
Belgium Form
Belgium completed an impressive turnaround on the pitch as they went from barely beating Senegal 3-2 to completely outdoing the USA in a 4-1 win.
This win was only their second triumph in 90 minutes at the tournament, with a pair of draws against Egypt and Iran coming alongside a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes against Senegal that ended in a 3-2 win after 120 minutes.
While Belgium found a way to get out of the group before edging through the opening two knockout rounds, they now face a genuine world class outfit. Spain have proved far too good for their opponent of late, and I predict they will notch a fifth win to nil in their last six meetings.
Verdict
I am backing Spain to keep yet another clean sheet as they end Belgium's inconsistent World Cup campaign.
