Bangladesh vs Australia 2nd ODI Preview & Tips
Bangladesh were outstanding in the first ODI against Australia as they played the conditions to perfection in an 86-run win.
Australia could not get near Bangladesh in the first ODI as their batters struggled to come to terms with the conditions and some intelligent bowling from the home side.
- Australia have won five of their previous six ODI's against Bangladesh (L1)
- Nahid Rana took four wickets in the first ODI
Head To Head
The pair have met six times in the ODI game, with Bangladesh winning once and Australia winning the other five meetings.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh were excellent in their opening clash with Australia as they managed to excel in tricky batting conditions before starring with the ball as they restricted the tourists to 191/9.
With the bat, Mosaddek Hossain's 86 from 70 was their top score, with a total of three batters going beyond the 50-run mark. After posting a solid score of 284/8, Bangladesh had Australia reeling at 2/2 as Matt Short departed for a golden duck before Marnus Labuschagne laboured to one from six. Cameron Green (52 not out) did show some resistance, but he was not given enough support as the home side stormed to a stunning win.
Vital with the ball as Nahid Rana. Rana's 4/41 came via a fiery spell of fast bowling that saw the ball constantly challenging the edge of the bat. If Rana was not looking for the edge, he was firing in hostile short balls or precise yorkers. Pace is a huge asset in the game of cricket, and I back Rana to continue to give Australia issues when batting.
Australia Form
Australia were nowhere near good enough in the first ODI as their woeful batting display was cut short by the weather in an 86-run loss via the DLS method.
After restricting Bangladesh to 284/8, the Aussies would have hoped they would be in the game. However, losing two key wickets in the first eight deliveries immediately harmed their chase and with regular wickets falling, they were ultimately well short of the asking rate.
On a more positive note, Australia were very disappointing against Pakistan in their first ODI before battling to a 41-run win in the second match. Perhaps the opening ODI will have provided them with enough time to come to terms with the conditions ahead of the second ODI as they try to emulate bouncing back in double-quick time.
Finding a way to deal with Rana will also be key, with Australia's batters continually challenged by the quick. With a number of batters looking to make up for disappointing performances in the opener, I am backing the Aussies to keep the series alive as they show why Bangladesh have only ever won one of their previous six ODI meetings.
Verdict
While I back Nahid Rana to continue to take wickets for the home side, I do not see him leading his side to the win as the tourists keep the series alive as a contest.
