Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Women 1st ODI Preview & Tips - Sri Lanka to hand Pakistan defeat in opening ODI

Pakistan Women hammered Zimbabwe by nine wickets last time out as they secured a 3-0 win over their opponents. 

Sri Lanka have secured three wins in their last 10 ODI's against Pakistan, with the latter winning the other seven matches. 

Sri Lanka Women's last appearance on the cricket pitch saw them edge to a tight three-wicket win over Scotland at the 2026 T20 World Cup. Despite failing to make it out of the group, they enjoyed a brilliant run that saw them win three of their five outings. 

While missing out on a semi-final berth by virtue of their inferior net run rate in comparison to the West Indies was frustrating, Sri Lanka can be proud. Indeed, wins over New Zealand, Ireland and Scotland saw them impress. 

Now, attention turns to the 50 over game for a series they have every chance of winning. Playing at home will provide them with the advantage when it comes to the conditions, while they boast a five wins across their last seven ODI's. Their previous record against Pakistan in the 50 over game may not be sparkling, but they have looked strong of late, and I back them to make it consecutive wins over their opponents in the ODI game. 

Pakistan Women endured a torrid T20 World Cup as a single win saw them finish in fifth, spared bottom of Group A by a Netherlands side that lost all five of their outings. 

While they have been poor in the T20 game, they do at least arrive on a four-game winning run in the ODI format. However, upon closer inspection of this winning run, things become slightly less impressive. While they hammered South Africa by 119 runs, this came with their ODI series already over as a contest in what was a dead rubber. 

They then stormed to three consecutive wins over Zimbabwe. Victories by 168 runs, 206 runs and nine wickets saw Pakistan win big, but when they came up against opponents of a higher quality at the T20 World Cup, Pakistan were continually beaten. 

The gap between the pair is not particularly big, and this will likely be on full show across the ODI series. While Pakistan will have their moments in the match, I predict that their winning run will be brought to an end as Sri Lanka showcase their budding ability across formats.
