Zimbabwe vs India 1st T20 Preview & Tips

Zimbabwe arrive for their Twenty20 series against India on the back of a battling 2-1 loss to Bangladesh in the shortest format.

India were humiliated by England in their last T20 series as they slumped to a 4-0 loss at the hands of an opponent in fine form.

Head To Head

India have won eight of their last 10 against Zimbabwe in the T20 format, with the latter winning the other two meetings.

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe went into their T20 series against Bangladesh having beaten the same opponent in their Test and ODI series, with the former in good form across the longer formats.

However, in the Twenty20 game they slumped to a 2-1 series defeat that came despite the home side winning the opener. In the second and third T20’s, Zimbabwe could not score more than 152 runs, while they took 11 wickets across their last two outings.

While Bangladesh looked strong, the quality of opposition rises considerably in this one. India have been very poor of late, but they have had some time to regroup. Despite the fact Zimbabwe are also in need of a win after a frustrating 2-1 T20 series loss to Bangladesh, I back them to slip to a defeat as they lose a third successive match in the shortest format.

India Form

India were not anywhere near their dominant best across their tour of the Ireland and the UK as they lost 2-0 to the former before slumping to a 4-0 defeat against England.

England did arrive with a squad crammed full of experience and talent. By contrast, India’s team had a lot of talent, but they were lacking experience. This showed across the four completed matches as they lost by four wickets, 125 runs, nine wickets and 56 runs.

While each defeat will have been incredibly frustrating, this squad can use them as chances to learn from a side that is at the top of their game. Now, Shreyas Iyer sets his sights on Zimbabwe, and I predict that the captain, who averages 38.50 in the T20 game in 2026, will star as he leads the touring side to victory.

Building on experiences is crucial for this young India side, and I predict that they will come away from this series with more positives than negatives.
