Bangladesh vs Australia 3rd ODI Preview & Tips
Bangladesh have been superb across their ODI series against Australia, with the former easing into a 2-0 lead with a single game to come.
Australia have been nowhere near good enough across the series, with their shaky batting unit piling the pressure on a bowling attack that has found wickets tough to come by.
- Bangladesh lead the series 2-0
- Najmul Hossain Shanto has scored 67 and 42 across the series
Head To Head
The pair have met seven times in the ODI game, with Australia winning five matches and Bangladesh winning their last two meetings.
Bangladesh Form
What a series it has been for Bangladesh, with their batting and bowling performances eclipsing a side that most had backed to storm to a series win.
Despite still being seen as minnows of the game in comparison to Australia and India, Bangladesh have managed to take some major scalps in the ODI game across the last year. In their last 10 they have won seven matches, beating the West Indies, Pakistan twice, New Zealand twice and Australia twice.
Their second ODI against the Aussies saw them come out on top in a low-scoring match. Set 192 to win via the DLS method, Bangladesh rallied well from going down a wicket without a run on the board to secure a five-wicket win. Najmul Hossain Shanto continued his good form against Australia, adding a score of 42 to go with his 67 in the first ODI.
Incredibly, Bangladesh's win came despite the fiery Nahid Rana failing to take a wicket. With the pitch in Dhaka depreciating, pace bowlers will likely become less potent in comparison to the spinners. This makes the batters that are specialists in playing spin even more important. Najmul Hossain Shanto has been a thorn in Australia's side so far and he will likely continue this trend as the number three adds another good score for the home side.
Australia Form
Australia's trip to face Bangladesh has not been one that has been successful, with the touring side completely outdone by an opponent that simply seems to want it more.
With the bat, the Aussies are yet to breach the 200-run mark, while they have only taken 13 of the 20 wickets on offer. While Bangladesh have also failed to bowl the Aussies out, they have at least taken nine and eight wickets in the first and second outings respectively. This has left the Aussies teetering, with their bowlers unable to dig their batters out of the hole they have found themselves in.
The likes of Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne have had their moments, but they have struggled for continued success with the bat. With many big names missing from this Aussie line-up, they have been crying out for a batter that can score consistent runs.
While Australia still lead the head to head between the side, their two successive defeats heading into this one is a worry. They have found the pitch in Dhaka very tough to deal with, while the threats Bangladesh have with the ball have proved too difficult to deal with, and I predict the touring side will slump to another defeat.
Verdict
I am backing Najmul Hossain Shanto to go beyond the 50-run mark as Bangladesh complete a remarkable 3-0 ODI series win over the Aussies.
