Colombo Kaps vs Jaffna Kings Preview & Tips

Colombo Kaps beat Dambulla Sixers by 21 runs in their last game as they secured consecutive Lanka Premier League wins.

Jaffna Kings hammered Kandy Royals by 93 runs in a stunning display of cricket from the former.

The Kaps have won three of their last four in the competition (L1)

The Kaps have won one of their last 10 against the Kings, with the latter winning the other nine meetings.

Colombo Kaps Form

The Colombo Kaps continue to impress in the Lanka Premier League and have one of the top spots in the palm of their hand.

Five matches have culminated in three wins, two defeats and six points. While they are only two points clear of bottom side Dambulla Sixers, a win in this one would take them four clear and could also see them move above Galle Gallants at the summit.

Their last outing against Dambulla Sixers saw the Kaps storm to an imposing 197/5 as Kamindu Mendis led the way with a brutal 88 not out from 39. In reply, the Sixers were always up against it as they trundled to 176/8.

Victory in this one would not only see the Kaps tighten their hold on one of the top spots, but it would also end a woeful run of nine defeats in their last 10 against the Kings. While history leans towards the Kings, I am backing the Kaps to secure a crucial win.

Jaffna Kings Form

Like Colombo Kaps, the Jaffna Kings can move four clear of Dambulla at the bottom and potentially go above the Galle Gallants with a win. With top of the standings on the cards for both sides, now is not the time for either side to suddenly drop off.

Against Kandy, Jaffna were outstanding. 199/4 was a big score that always looked on the very edge of what the former could chase. Indeed, nine single-figure scores came largely from the pressure of having to score big runs quickly, and this saw Kandy slump to a big 93-run loss.

This win was Jaffna's third of the season and put their ability to go big with the bat and take wickets when in the field on full show. It would not be a surprise to see this match-up gracing the grand final this season. While Jaffna have impressed this term, I am backing against them in this one as the Kaps notch the points.
