Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd Test Preview & Tips
Bangladesh proved far too good for Pakistan in the first Test as their batting and bowling units utilised the conditions perfectly on their way to a deserved win.
Pakistan's batting woes continued as they followed up a solid first innings score with a woeful display in the second innings.
- Bangladesh have won their last three Test matches
- Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 101 and 87 for Bangladesh in the first Test
Head To Head
In their last 10 Test match meetings, Bangladesh have won three times with Pakistan winning six games and one meeting ending as a draw. Importantly. Bangladesh have won their last three Tests against Pakistan.
Bangladesh Form
Bangladesh were outstanding in the first Test against Pakistan as they put their renewed ability to bat for long periods and bowl with control on full show.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was brilliant with the bat as he notched a stunning century in the first innings before coming within 13 runs of another 100 in the second innings. With Bangladesh ultimately winning by 104 runs, his two excellent scores likely proved the difference.
With the ball, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nahid Rana took five wickets in the first and second innings respectively, while Taijul Islam was a constant threat across both of Pakistan's batting performances. With their ability to make the most out of a pace and spin attack that is giving the best issues, Bangladesh are proving themselves to be a real force in the game, especially on their own patch.
The pitch in Sylhet will likely provide a lot of help to the spinners and I predict that this will play into Bangladesh's hands. While Pakistan have some solid spin bowling options, they will be outdone by the home side, with Hossain Shanto tipped to give Pakistan issues once again.
Pakistan Form
Another series, another batting collapse for Pakistan. With the touring side well set at 57/1 chasing 268 to win, the tourists fell apart in true Pakistan style, losing nine wickets for 106 runs.
This came despite a strong batting display in the first innings that saw Pakistan battle to 386. While they were still 27 behind after the first innings, they knew that early wickets would swing the Test back in their favour. While they had Bangladesh teetering at 23/2, they struggled to make further inroads until the home side had gone well beyond the 100-run mark.
Leading by 267, Bangladesh decided to declare. Against most other top sides this would have seemed like an entirely chaseable total. However, for a Pakistan batting unit that all too often crumbles under pressure, Bangladesh's decision to declare was a master plan that piled the pressure on Pakistan and saw the touring side skittled.
With three defeats coming in their last four Tests and five defeats coming in their last seven, I am backing Pakistan to slump to another defeat as their poor run of form in the Test match format continues.
Verdict
I am backing Najmul Hossain Shanto to lead Bangladesh to another win over Pakistan as the former proves they are the better of the two sides in the Test game.
