Bangladesh Women come into their opening Cricket World Cup match on the back of the tightest win over Sri Lanka as they beat their opponents by a single run.

Pakistan Women were beaten by South Africa as their four wicket loss saw them arrive for the tournament on the back of a defeat.

Bangladesh Women may arrive for the 2025 Cricket World Cup on the back of a win over Sri Lanka, but they are hardly in the greatest form right now.

Defeats to the West Indies by three wickets and Pakistan by seven wickets saw Bangladesh trundling towards the World Cup on a woeful run. Their win over Sri Lanka was timely, although a win by a single run came in a match that could have gone either way.

In the pressure situation that is a World Cup game, I predict that Bangladesh will struggle to get to grips with Pakistan. While I do predict another strong showing from Sharmin Akhter after her 71 against Sri Lanka, I do not see this being enough to get Bangladesh over the line.

Pakistan Women Form

Pakistan Women know that they are really up against it at the 2025 World Cup, and if they are to take a place in the semi-finals, they simply have to start well.

Bangladesh provide an opponent that will challenge them but, more importantly, they can beat their opponents. Pakistan downed Bangladesh by seven wickets in their most recent encounter, and they will look to draw on this win along with their recent victory over South Africa heading into their World Cup opener.

The first match of a World Cup is never easy, and I predict a tight game. The two sides are well-matched, and with the nerves of performing in their all-important first match of the tournament, I predict a very close match.
