England vs India Women Test Match Preview & Tips

England Women went into their T20 World Cup final against Australia 40 overs from the trophy, but they were ultimately left well short of their opponents, with the side now having to pick themselves back up for a clash in the longest format with India.

India Women will target the first ever women’s Test at Lord’s as a chance to make up for their group stage exit at the T20 World Cup.

India have won four of their last five Test matches (L1)
India have never lost to England in the Test match format (W2, D1)

Head To Head

India have won two of the previous three Tests between the pair, with one match ending as a draw.

England Women Form

England Women have been excellent across their T20 World Cup summer, with the side winning all five of their group games before hammering South Africa by 40 runs in the semi-finals.

However, they were once again given a lesson in cricket by the best team in the women’s game. Australia romped to a deserved seven-wicket win over the home side, with this seeing their six-game winning run at the T20 competition brought to an end.

Now, whether England like it or not, they have to get back out into the middle as they switch the shortest format for the longest format. Their fortunes in the longest format have not been hugely impressive, with England winning one of their last four Tests. While they have only lost once, two draws in this run shows England have struggled to secure the win.

India have impressed of late, and I believe that England’s heartbreak in the T20 World Cup final on Sunday will play a big part in them losing their first ever Test at Lord’s.

India Women Form

India Women arrive for the first women’s Test at Lord’s chasing history, with the side taking to the field in the longest format for only the eighth time.

Across their last seven Tests, India have only lost once, with one game ending as a draw while the other five have ended in two wins over England, two wins over Australia and a triumph against South Africa. While India have not played Test match cricket all too often, when they have, they have been tough to beat.

Smriti Mandhana continues to prove she is one of the best batters in the game, and she will be key to the fortunes of the touring side. Her ability to soak up pressure, rotate the strike or cut a path to the boundary will be crucial, and I back the star to go well at Lord’s.
